Anta Nossa Senhora do Monte
The Anta Nossa Senhora do Monte (also Senhora do Monte or Dolmen of Monte Penedono) is located on a plateau with six other megalithic structures , near the road from Penedono to Paredes da Beira in the north of the Viseu district in Portugal . Anta or dolmen is the Portuguese name for around 5000 megalithic structures that were built during the Neolithic in the west of the Iberian Peninsula by the successors of the cardial or imprint culture .
The chapel above the Anta
The ruins of the Nossa Senhora do Monte chapel are about 2.1 km south of the road. The chapel is a Christianized megalithic monument that was built over the megalithic complex in such a way that the Anta's chamber is under the choir . The corridor is east of the chapel. Nossa Senhora do Monte is the largest Anta on the plateau. The polygonal structure with a long corridor apparently represented the core of the necropolis . Excavations in the 1990s that were carried out in connection with the restoration of the chapel have evidence of a date between 3200 and 2900 BC. Performed.
Nearby
About 30 m north of the chapel is the "Dolmen de Carvalhal", a passage grave of smaller dimensions. The corridor, three chamber support stones and a capstone of the corridor have been preserved from him. The interior paving shows the former floor plan, consisting of seven bearing stones.
About 800 m south of the chapel on the right of the path is the “Dolmen of Sangrino”, shortly before that, the two Lapinha facilities are on the left. The Sangrino dolmen is a complex with an uninterrupted corridor, which is located in a flat stone hill . The shape of the chamber, of which only one bearing stone has been preserved, can also be reconstructed due to the interior paving.
The remains of the “ Dolmen da Penela” are located south of the Penela sports field . The “Dolmen de Turgal” is located in a nearby field.
