The Eastern black-necked garter snake ( Thamnophis cyrtopsis ocellatus ) is one of three subspecies of the black-necked garter snake .

features

Their orange stripes on the back and the black and white side patterns are striking.

Adult females of this Thamnophis subspecies are almost 120 cm long. Males stay smaller.

They prefer frogs as food ; in the terrarium they also accept fish (for example smelt ) and rodents that are young in the nest .

Like all garter snakes, they are viviparous .

distribution

The eastern black-necked garter snake is one of the rare representatives of the genus garter snake . Their relatively small natural range is west of Big Bend National Park on the Edwards Plateau in central Texas , USA .
