Úlfr Uggason

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Úlfr Uggason was an Icelandic skald of the late 10th century. The surviving work only includes the pictorial poem Húsdrápa and a Lausavísa .

Little is known about the person and life, and only from the Landnámabók (Sturlubók 76, Hauksbók 64) and from the Njála (Chapter 60) where he is mentioned as an opponent in a legal dispute with Ásgrímr Elliða-Grímsson and Gunnarr von Hlíðarendi . Furthermore, in chapter 102 of the Njála there is the Lausavísa, with which Úlfr refuses to take part in an attack on the missionary Þangbrandr and his companion. The Laxdæla saga (chap. 29) tells of the circumstances that caused Úlfr to compose the Húsdrápa, which has been handed down in fragments from Snorri Sturluson (Prose Edda). The writings are dated to the end of the second half of the 10th century.
