Süskind deals with the topics of love and death and describes how both relate to each other, how people see them and how they are treated in literature. “Why, for example, are there countless poems that glorify love? But people never write about going to the toilet . It doesn't appear in a book! Are food intake and daily human needs too common to mention? Love is just as present every day! ”Süskind comes to the conclusion that there must be something very special about love. It is more than just any molecules that change the body and brain in such a way that we behave completely differently. Süskind supports his theses, points of view and results with philosophical views, for example from Plato and Socrates .
