The locomotives of the EU07 series of the Polish State Railways (PKP) are electric locomotives for the transportation of passenger trains and express trains . Part of the series was converted to the EP07 series .

The EU06 series , supplied by English Electric from 1961 , was reproduced under license from 1965 by Pafawag in Wrocław . Only small changes were made (slightly increased width). The licensed buildings were given the type designation 4E and were delivered to PKP as the EU07 series. 240 locomotives had been built by 1974.

The EP08 series for a top speed of 140 km / h (instead of 125 km / h for the EU07) was derived from the EU07 series in 1972 by changing the gearbox . The first built EP08 (EP08-002 to EP08-005) were converted into the EU07-241 to EU07-244 in 1976 and 1977.

In 1977 the double locomotive ET41 (type 203E) was designed for use in freight traffic based on the EU07 . Each ET41 consists of two closely coupled locomotives similar to the EU07, but with only one driver's cab. The construction of the ET41 series ended in 1983.

In 1983 the construction of the EU07 series was continued, but now at Cegielski in Poznań , where the ET41 had already been built. A few changes were made here (reinforced locomotive body , 0.32 m longer, with corrugated side walls, prepared for the installation of an automatic coupling, mass increased by 3.4 t). This variant received the type designation 303E, but was also classified as EU07 by the PKP. By 1992, 242 type 303E locomotives had been built. Three more were built from 1990 to 1994 from individual halves of locomotives of the ET41 series.

From 1995, 97 EU07 were converted into EP07 (see below). The decommissioning of the EU07 series has already started, in 2004 there were still 313 EU07s in the factory. They are in almost all railway depots located PKP and are virtually in total electrified network of express and passenger trains in operation. EU07-125 was sold to the private railway company PTKiGK and is in use there as 4E-004.

EP07 series

EP07 designed by PKP Intercity in Swinoujscie

From 1995 to 2003, 97 EU07s were better adapted to the needs of express train traffic, as the engines were prone to failure at higher speeds. For this purpose, the transmission was converted from a gear ratio of 79:18 to a gear ratio of 76:21. Two locomotives also received new LKb535 engines. Mainly locomotives of the second series were used for the conversion, only 15 EU07 type 4E were converted.

The converted EU07s were given the series designation EP07 in accordance with the PKP series scheme due to their adaptation for passenger transport. The serial numbers remained unchanged. Like the EU07, the EP07 are used nationwide.
