The Paul-Horn-Arena (official spelling: Paul Horn - Arena , until September 29, 2007 called TüArena or Europahalle ) is a multifunctional hall in the Baden-Württemberg university town of Tübingen , which is used for competitive, popular and school sports and 3,180 Seats.
history
The three-field hall was built in 2004 under the authority of the city of Tübingen, and according to their information, the construction costs amounted to around 8.9 million euros . The architects of the building are Allmann Sattler Wappner from Munich .
The original plan was for the city of Tübingen to pay three million euros, the state of Baden-Württemberg three million and a support group to bring in another three million through donations and various campaigns. Ultimately, however, the sponsorship group was unable to generate more than 100,000 euros. The city of Tübingen had to bear the rest, which led to a gap in the budget. Various other projects such as the renovation of various sports fields could not be carried out.
In addition to the actual hall, there is an outdoor climbing wall, a skateboard park and several street ball fields on the site. There are also solar modules on the south-west facade, which can generate up to 30,000 kWh of environmentally friendly electricity per year with a possible peak output of 40 kW. Daylight openings in the roof area are also energy-saving.
In 2005 the hall received the Foundation Prize from the Lebendige Stadt Foundation , which annually awards innovative city projects, such as particularly outstanding cultural and city marketing events, successful city staging as well as monument preservation and tourism projects. The jury gave the unmistakable architecture, the sporty and functional diversity and the innovative construction of the hall as a reason.
In the 2016/17 season, the then Bundesliga basketball team Tigers Tübingen , the Bundesliga volleyball team TV Rottenburg and the Bundesliga women's handball team TuS Metzingen (some games in the handball Bundesliga and all games in the EHF Cup ), three competitive sports teams played their home games in the arena. Also, the TV 1893 Neuhausen was in the IPL season 2012/13 from its home games here as its home hall, Hofbühlhalle was not Bundesliga compatible.
Since September 29, 2007, the former TüArena has been called the "Paul Horn Arena". It is named after the Tübingen tool company Paul Horn .
