The EP08 series locomotives of the Polish State Railways (PKP) are electric locomotives for moving express trains .

The Polish route network allows speeds higher than 120 km / h on only a few routes. In order to take advantage of the possibilities of these routes, a variant (Type 4Ea) with a modified gear was developed in 1972 from the series EU07 (Type 4E), which had been tried and tested since 1965 , the transmission ratio for the EP08 is 77:24 instead of 79:18 for the EU07. Although this resulted in a maximum design speed of 160 km / h, it was limited to 140 km / h. Otherwise no changes were made to the design, but the locomotives of the EP08 series, unlike those of the EU07 series, were given an orange paint to make them stand out as high-speed locomotives. Four locomotives of this type were built by Pafawag in Breslau and classified as EP08-002 to EP08-005.

In 1973, the prototype of a modified type 102E with roller bearings instead of plain bearings was completed and adopted as EP08-001. The series delivery took place in 1975 and 1976 and comprised ten locomotives (EP08-006 to EP08-015). Due to a lack of funds for importing the rolling bearings, there was no further procurement.

The four locomotives with plain bearings EP08-002 to EP08-005 were converted to the EU07-241 to EU07-244 in 1976 and 1977. The remaining locomotives were still in stock in 2004, with the exception of EP08-014 and EP08-015. They are located in the Warsaw depot and are used for InterCity and Express trains. EP08-007 received the blue livery from PKP Intercity in 2007 .
