The raid on Indian Creek (English: The 1865 Indian Creek Raid ) describes the murder of two white settlers by Indians in Denton County , Texas , in September 1865.

Between 1859 and 1875, on the northern border of Texas, there were increased armed attacks by Indians against English settlers who had driven the conquest of Indian territory. In September 1865, 15 Indians on horseback ambushed the settlers Smith and Wright in southern Denton County. While Wright was killed instantly in the attack, Smith was able to save himself on his horse despite an arrow wound to Denton for help. There he died of tetanus .

Since 1983 a memorial plaque has been commemorating the attack at a historical location.
