A transfer vehicle is an agricultural transport trailer with special devices for particularly quick transfer of the goods to be transported onto road transport vehicles . It serves as an auxiliary device when using large-scale harvesting technology in order to use it as efficiently as possible.

technology

The wagons are regularly pulled by a tractor . Mostly it is overloaded with the help of screw conveyors and a discharge pipe. This is comparable to the devices on combine harvesters for emptying the grain tank. In another design, the loading tray is raised with the aid of a hydraulic system and tilted to the side or emptied using a scraper floor .

Procedure

Since, for example, when harvesting grain with powerful combine harvesters, large quantities of crop are produced in a short period of time, this is often driven by trucks . However, in order to prevent off-road trucks from getting stuck in the field , the harvested crop is transported with the transfer vehicle from the harvesting machine to the truck waiting at the edge of the field. Intensive communication between the driver and the harvesting machine is necessary so that unnecessary empty runs are avoided and the harvesting machine does not have to wait. At the same time, trips with a full transfer trailer should be avoided on inclines. In any case, a powerful tractor is required, which is missing from road transport or soil cultivation. As a rule, overloading is carried out on the fly, i.e. the harvesting machine continues to harvest while it empties its storage container onto the vehicle driving alongside in a short time. During the grain harvest, a transfer wagon serves up to three combine harvesters one after the other, depending on the size of the area. Overloading wagons are mostly worthwhile for long pitch lengths. The advantage of the transfer trailer is small on smaller areas, as the proportion of maneuvering work during the first rounds of the field is very large. Here it is partly used as an interim storage facility until the next transport vehicle has arrived.

Specially equipped transfer trailers are also used for moist crops such as corn silage. The main concern here is to protect the soil as much as possible. There is no need to compromise on ease of movement or transport capacity on the road.

Other possible uses

Transfer trailers are also used to equip seed drills or fertilizer spreaders .
