Übermedien is a German-language online magazine for media criticism that Stefan Niggemeier founded with Boris Rosenkranz in January 2016. It was awarded the Bert Donnepp Prize for media journalism in 2017 .

Content

Übermedien deals with what is happening in the media in Germany and the work of journalists. In terms of style and choice of topics, it is aimed at a wide audience. The editorial team consists of Stefan Niggemeier and Boris Rosenkranz, who also writes for the TV magazine Zapp . In her opinion, there is a lack of good media criticism in Germany. The task of over-media is to analyze “where the media are wrong and why”, but also what has succeeded. The magazine contains texts, including interviews, as well as photo series, moderated videos and caricatures. In the column column , various freelance authors write on different focuses. Since February 2019, Johanna Halt, Sigrid Neudecker, Cordt Schnibben and Arno Frank have been devoting themselves to a magazine under the heading “Bahnhofskiosk” . They replaced Michalis Pantelouris .

Niggemeier also combined a business concept with the editorial idea. In order to be independent, Übermedia is financed exclusively by the users.

reception

The approach of over-media is "differentiated, balanced media criticism", wrote Felix Stephan at the start of the magazine in 2016 in Zeit Online . It is "the media department that the established houses can no longer afford".

According to Stephan Ruß-Mohl , Niggemeier and Rosenkranz make "subtle media journalism" with over-media. They would specifically check the facts with established media and be less interested in the fakes and conspiracy theories that are circulating on Youtube and on social media .

The magazine was awarded the Bert Donnepp Prize in 2017 . The jury found: "Übermedien combines clever comments, profound and profound research and satirical approaches - always with a clear attitude and the unbreakable optimism: it can be done better!"
