Translation restriction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The translation restriction is a term used in cycling and triathlon .

In fact, in the case of the restrictions contained, for example, in the racing regulations of the Federation of German Cyclists and the sports regulations of the German Triathlon Union , the expiry length is limited. This describes the distance a bicycle covers with one turn of the crank. This length is limited in the competition regulations for schoolchildren and youth classes. The control takes place in random samples or after the competition with the best placed. In the triathlon , the check-in takes place before the race.

The run-off length is calculated as the product of the gear ratio and the rolling circumference of the tire. The wheel circumference varies depending on the rim diameter and tire height; on 27-inch racing bikes it is between 2.10 m and 2.14 m. The gear ratio results from the tooth ratio of chainring and pinion . 39, 42 (obsolete), 52 (youngsters) and 53 are common for chainrings in road cycling, and eleven to 27 teeth for pinions.

A simple determination of the run length is possible by engaging the highest gear and pushing the bike back along a tape measure or a marking until exactly one crank turn is reached. The translation can usually be limited by adjusting screws on the rear derailleur (locking individual sprockets in the rear cassette) and on the front derailleur (locking individual chainrings in the front).

The translation limitation serves to improve the development of young cyclists. For the long-term athletic development of adolescents, it is better to train the cadence first . As a result, the muscles, ligaments and joints are slowly adjusted and the young people are protected from symptoms of excessive strain; later strength can be trained much faster. By limiting the length of the run in the sports regulations, the young people are forced to use a higher-frequency instead of a powerful driving style.

example

Maximum permissible run-off lengths according to the competition regulations for road racing of the Association of German Cyclists :

Age group Max. Expiry length usual translation
U19 7.93 m 52/14
U17 7.01 m 52/16
U15 6.10 m 42/15
U13 5.66 m 42/16
U11 5.66 m 42/16

In the triathlon , the length limits for the school and youth classes of the German Triathlon Union apply :

Age group Age Max. Expiry length
Pupil D 6/7 5.66 m
Pupil C 8/9 5.66 m
Student B 10/11 5.66 m
Student A 12/13 5.66 m
Youth B 14/15 6.10 m
Youth A 16/17 7.01 m
Juniors 18/19 no limit
