EPox mainboard - VIA KT133A chipset

EPoX (derived from the Greek term εποχή = “epoch”) was a Taiwanese manufacturer of motherboards and similar hardware as well as communication devices (Bluetooth, graphics cards). The company was founded in February 1995 and at its best had around 200 employees; Shares can be traded over-the- counter and the company is based in Taipei, Taiwan. The company's motherboards have a reputation for being overclockable .

In 2002 EPoX was one of the three largest mainboard sellers in Europe with successful boards such as the EP-8K3A + or EP-8K5A3 +. The mainboards from EPoX were described as "top products" in almost every test or received other awards. However, low-quality capacitors and MOSFETs on the boards caused an accumulation of hardware failures in mid-2003, which led to a large number of complaints. EPoX reacted to these problems very late with improved revisions of the affected product lines and again installed higher quality components. A three-year guarantee was also given on mainboards purchased after November 3rd, 2003.

Due to these temporary quality problems, EPoX suffered a very large damage to its image, from which the company could not fully recover - despite solid and even very good boards such as the EP-9NPA + SLI for Socket 939 , which on the one hand offered very good overclocking properties, but also on the other was very fast and stable. Green or black PCBs , which were equipped with colored expansion slots, were characteristic of EPoX mainboards .

EPoX was the only company to offer an SLI-capable mainboard for socket 754 .

The former Elito EPoX GmbH discontinued its end customer and dealer support in Germany in 2005. With the introduction of the RoHS directive in Europe on July 1, 2006, EPoX withdrew from the European market, although EPoX had RoHS-compliant boards in its product portfolio. EPoX introduced a new line of motherboards in 2006, with the enthusiast line named "Optimus". The black and red symbol should represent the "element" fire.

In early 2007, a deal for a check for US $ 300,000 fell through, indicating financial problems on the part of EPoX. EPoX was also no longer represented at Cebit 2007 or ComputeX. As of June 26, 2007, the head office for Europe in the Netherlands has been closed for financial reasons.

The successor company called SuPoX has existed since April 2007 , and was founded by some of the EPoX employees - mainly engineers. The production series was taken over and partially supplemented, in particular by versions that were slimmed down by some features.
