The Þjófafoss ( Isl. Þjófar = "thieves", foss = "waterfall") is a waterfall of the Þjórsá in southern Iceland . They are said to have pushed thieves into the waterfall.
To the south of the Búrfell mountain , the river supports here in a wide arc of 12 m in depth. Since the water from the Þjórsá for the Búrfellsvirkjun is taken from above and released again below, the waterfall is largest when the snowmelts.
