The ČSD class 475.0 was a tank locomotive series of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

history

The ČSD class 475.0 was the last express locomotive built before the Second World War and was intended for the same area of activity as the ČSD class 464.0 .

The locomotive was a solution in which the chassis of the 464.0 was connected to the steam engine of the 387.0 . This made it decidedly better than the 464.0 . The only disadvantage with her was that the required axle pressure of 14 t could not be met. As a result, the locomotive could not be used freely. What was outstanding about it was the elegant design, underlined by the green paintwork similar to the 387.0 series .

Technical specifications

The axle arrangement of the locomotive was 2´D 2´ as in the ČSD series 464.0 with drive wheels of the same diameter. The steam pressure was 16 bar with her. Many parts were identical to those of the 387.0 and 486.0 series (e.g. bogies).

The locomotive had the same boiler as the 387.0 series with the large-pipe superheater. The steam engine was also identical to that of the 387.0 series .

commitment

Due to the axle pressure of 15 t, the locomotive could only be used on certain routes and remained in service as a loner. Until 1951 it was the heaviest tank locomotive for the ČSD and used in passenger train service. Although it was considered the most elegant locomotive by the ČSD, it had no chance in terms of maintenance and was retired in 1962.
