The Česká strana státoprávní ( Czech constitutional party ) was a Czech , nationalist party in Austria-Hungary around 1900. In 1908 it became part of the Česká strana státoprávně pokroková (Czech constitutionally progressive party).

history

The roots of the Czech constitutional party go back to the Czech progress movement, whereby those supporters of the progress movement who rejected the cautious attitude of the Young Czechs in the constitutional question formed the constitutional party. Furthermore, the rejection of a possible cooperation between the Young Czechs and the Socialists was another motivation for founding the Czech constitutional party. The Czech constitutional party was subsequently joined by a number of young Czechs such as the politician Alois Rašín and his companions. The Czech constitutional party took a radical view of Bohemian constitutional law and rejected the constitution and the cisleithan imperial council because the constitution had come about without the consent of the people. In the eyes of the Czech constitutional party, only the Bohemian Landtag had constitutional authority . Furthermore, for the Czech constitutional party, the solution of the Bohemian constitutional question did not automatically mean remaining in the Habsburg monarchy. In addition to the subject of constitutional law, the group around Rašín mainly advocated the interests of entrepreneurs and saw an important task in the fight against socialism. Due to the extreme nationalism, there were several anti-Semitic rides, which finally led to the separation of Rašín and his followers from the constitutional lawyers at the end of 1901. Due to the personnel changes as well as for reasons of election tactics, the Czech constitutional party merged in April 1908 with the Česká strana radikálně pokroková (Czech radically progressive party) to form Česká strana státoprávně pokroková (Czech constitutionally progressive party).
