İkbal Berber

İkbal Berber (born February 1, 1956 in Antakya , Turkey) is a Turkish-German teacher and politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the Saarland state parliament .

Life and work

İkbal Berber trained as a primary school teacher in Turkey. This was followed by a degree in German and psychology at the University of Saarland . Later she also works there as a teacher and lecturer. Outside of Saarland University, she was also active nationwide with seminars on the subject of "Intercultural Integration". In 2009 she was a consultant for academic professions at the Employment Agency .

In addition to her job, she is involved in voluntary work as an employee and, in some cases, as chairwoman of various associations for education, culture and sport. She is the chair of the association “Ramesch - Forum for Intercultural Encounters”.

She has been a member of the SPD since 1991. She was the first spokeswoman for the Foreigners' Council in Saarbrücken.

She was a member of the Saarland state parliament from 1999 to 2004. There she was deputy chairman of the petitions committee . For the state elections in Saarland in 2009, she was part of the SPD Saar's competence team for integration. The party also announced that Ms. Berber should become State Secretary for Integration in a possible SPD-led state government.
