Ōnohara-jima ( Japanese 大野 原 島 ) is a group of small rock islands of volcanic origin in the Pacific Ocean . It belongs geographically to the archipelago of the Izu Islands and administratively to the village (community) Miyake of the sub-prefecture Miyake of Tokyo of Japan .
Ōnohara-jima is located around 180 km south of Tokyo and 10 km west of Miyake-jima . The numerous rocks together have an area of only 0.02 km². The highest is Koyasu ( 子 安 島 , -shima ) in the north at 114 m above sea level. The rocks, consisting mainly of andesite , represent the largely submerged lava dome of a former volcano . Due to its profile from a distance, it is also called Sambondake ( 三 本 岳 , dt. "3 peaks").
