Ōshima Hiroshi (zoologist)

Ōshima Hiroshi ( Japanese 大 島 広 ; born November 5, 1885 in Ōita Prefecture ; † March 6, 1971 ; born as Nomura Hiroshi; Japanese 野村 広 ) was a Japanese zoologist.

After he had completed a degree in zoology at the Imperial University of Tokyo in 1909 , he became a teacher at a Tokyo high school (1914-1919). Until 1922 he went to the USA and England to study. He held a first professorship from 1922-28 at Kyūshū University . In 1924 he received his doctorate. rer. nat. PhD. In 1928 he was called to his alma mater . In 1956, when he reached retirement age, he retired.

Ōshima was married to the eldest daughter Ōshima Takekiko , into whose family he was adopted. They had three children together, including a daughter.

He was a member of the Japanese Academy of Sciences , the Japanese Esperanto Society, the YMCA and the Japanese Zoological Society .
