Ōtenta

The Ōtenta ( Japanese 大典 太 ) is a Japanese Tachi sword and a national treasure of Japan . The sword is one of the tenka-goken ("five best swords under the sky"). According to legend, the Ōtenta was made by the swordsmith Tenta Mitsuyo ( 典 太 光 世 ) in the late Heian period . The Ōtenta has a blade length of approx. 66.1 centimeters, on the sharpener a blade width of 2.5 centimeters and a sori of 2.7 centimeters. The Ōtenta was a treasure of the Ashikaga shogunate . After the fall of the Ashikaga shogunate, the Ōtenta was kept by the Maeda family .
