Şeyhi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Şeyhi (* 2nd half of the 14th century in Germiyan ; † after 1429 Germiyan) was a Turkish poet . His full name and title was Mevlana Yusuf Sinan Germiyanî.

Şeyhi went on a study trip to Persia, which was of great importance for his poetic work. He made a copy of Nezāmis Chosrau and Schirin as a commissioned work and maintained close contacts with the court of the Turkish sultans

The perfectly formed lyric poetry of Şeyhi is reminiscent of Hafis , whose poetry inspired Goethe to create the West-Eastern Divan , and is a direct successor of Nezami and Ahmedi . The universally educated doctor and poet wrote an immortal satirical masterpiece of literary history with his "donkey book" Kharname .
