The Štefánik Observatory (Czech: Štefánikova hvězdárna) is an observatory on Petřín Hill in the center of Prague . It was founded in 1928 and is named after the Slovak astronomer Milan Rastislav Štefánik . The focus of the observatory today is to make astronomy and related sciences accessible to a wide audience.

Instruments

The main telescopes of the observatory are in the main dome, a Zeiss - double refractor according to the Vienna selenographers Rudolf King (since 1928) and in the western dome, a Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope (since 1976). The eastern dome of the observatory is used exclusively for scientific observations and was founded in 1999 from a 40-cm Meade - reflecting telescope .
