Żarek
Żarek (German Bremberg ) was a village in the municipality of Męcinka , Lower Silesian Voivodeship , Poland . The location on the Wütenden Neisse , seven kilometers northwest of the town of Jawor , was flooded in 1978 when the reservoir (Zalew Słup) was enlarged.
history
Bremberg was first mentioned in a document in 1217. Before the decisive battle of the Katzbach , General Blücher took his headquarters in Brechelshof Castle near Jauer, which served as a military hospital . In the 1930s, the previously independent estate district of Brechelshof (Brachów) was annexed to Bremberg. In 1939 the place in the district of Jauer had 766 inhabitants.
Conveniently located on the Jauer – Liegnitz railway line , the place was a popular destination for excursions and recreation. Year-round extensive parks, orchards and wooded areas were ideal for walking and hiking. In spring, the fruit tree blossom was particularly attractive, and in summer the nearby reservoir. Finally, in winter there were passable skiing and tobogganing opportunities. Sights were the Brechelshof Castle, located in an oak forest; The Breite Berg ( Kopista , 260 m above sea level), a basalt massif that bounded the village to the southwest and whose summit offered a view of the Liegnitz plain and the surrounding mountain ranges, the wonder pine and the legendary Kindelstein, a large one in the river bed of the Angry Neisse lying boulder.
