Life

Misik joined the Revolutionary Marxists (GRM) group in 1983 at the age of 17 . His journalistic activity began in 1989 at the now closed Arbeiter-Zeitung . From 1992 to 1997 he was a correspondent for the news magazine profil in Berlin . He has been working as a freelance writer since 2002. He writes and positions himself in journalistic contributions with articles, columns, conversations and interviews - as a questioner and as an answerer - constantly in the daily newspaper taz , regularly in the magazines Falter and Format published in Austria , occasionally in newspapers and magazines such as Friday , Junge Welt , Neues Deutschland , Neue Zürcher Zeitung and more often in Die Zeit , to cite examples only from the field of print media.

Misik is a non-fiction author and ran a video blog with 582 episodes on the homepage of the daily newspaper Der Standard until January 2019 . His topics include the criticism of capitalism and globalization , Austrian and German daily politics, the history of social democracy and the relationship between consumer culture and the production of goods. Misik is particularly involved in theoretical and political debates. At the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue , he leads the Genial series of events . The guests included Nobel laureate Robert Shiller , the parliamentary group leader of the Left Party in the German Bundestag Sahra Wagenknecht and Greece's ex-finance minister Yanis Varoufakis . Misik is the biographer of the former Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern (who is almost exactly the same age to the day) and is considered his friend.

During his time in Berlin in the 1990s, he was friends with the German screenwriter Thomas Strittmatter (1961–1995).
