Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka [vutka ˌʐɔwɔntkɔva ɡɔʐka] (often simply Żołądkowa Gorzka or Żołądkowa ) is a herb - vodka from Poland , the leading brand of Polmos Lublin / floor Polska since 1956. The name translates as something like "bitters Vodka" .

The manufacturer has been using a traditional Polish method of making alcoholic beverages since 1950 : herbs are added to the mash . In addition to Poland, the spirit is distributed in the United Kingdom , the USA , Australia , Canada , Germany and Spain . The brand has won several prizes, including the Oskar FMCG 2006 Award, the CoolBrands award, the gold medal at the Poznan International Fair POLAGRA 2000 and the Monde Selection 2009 (Grand Gold Medal). In 2009 Polmos changed the bottle design to make it look more modern. It is still inspired by the traditional bottle shape.

Żołądkowa Gorzka is part of the Polish tradition of herbal and fruit vodka. An early example is Trisz Divinis, which was first created in the 15th century. It consists of a selection of 27 herbs and fruits and was first described by Melchior Wańkowicz in his essay Tędy i Owędy . Marketing claims that Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka improves digestion.

Contrary to its name, Żołądkowa Gorzka is a sweet, amber-colored vodka with a spicy aroma and herbal taste. Żołądkowa Gorzka is offered in five different flavors:

  • Traditional (Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka Tradycyjna). A classic, special herbal bitter vodka.
  • with mint (Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka z Miętą). Traditionally with added peppermint . Introduced in 2005.
  • with honey (Żołądkowa Gorzka z Miodem). Traditionally with added Polish honey . Introduced in 2006.
  • clear / white (Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka Czysta de Luxe). Introduced in 2007.
  • with bison grass (Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka na trawie Żubrowej). Introduced in 2009.

The taste of Żołądkowa Gorzka is the result of combining herbs with dried fruits (during the process of maceration of the herbs and aging). The trade secret of the recipe includes: Artemisia , gentians , pepper and galangal . The taste is complemented by the addition of clove , cinnamon and nutmeg . The color of Wódka Żołądkowa Gorzka is created by adding caramel . Żołądkowa Gorzka has an alcohol content of 36%.
