Polmos was a Polish vodka producer that was founded in 1973 as a state monopoly as a merger of numerous vodka distilleries. The company was broken up and privatized in 1991, resulting in numerous spin-offs that took over the Polmos name. Polmos is an acronym for Polski Monopol Spirytusowy (German: Polish Spirits Monopoly ). A monopoly company was founded with the same company as early as 1919. The Polmos spin-offs refer to this when they state 1919 as the date of foundation.
