Giovanni Benedetto Folicaldi

Giovanni Benedetto Folicaldi , also Giovanni-Benedetto Folicaldi (born March 17, 1801 in Bagnacavallo , † May 28, 1867 in Faenza ) was an Italian clergyman and bishop of Faenza .

Life

He attended the Collegio Tolomei in Siena from 1812 to 1819 and then studied in Rome at the University of La Sapienza , where he obtained the academic title of Doctor iuris utriusque on July 22, 1822 . As the papal house prelate and trainee lawyer, Giovanni Benedetto Folicaldi entered the service of the Curia before July 12, 1823 . He was ordained a priest on April 19, 1824. On October 31, 1823, he had already been appointed Abbreviator . On December 4, 1823 he was vice- legate in Bologna, four years later, on March 6, 1827, he was apostolic delegate in Benevento. During the conclave of 1829 he held the position of pro-legate in Forlí.

Pope Gregory XVI appointed Giovanni Benedetto Folicaldi on July 2, 1832 Bishop of Faenza. He was ordained bishop on July 8th of the same year by Cardinal Carlo Odescalchi SJ ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Giovanni Soglia Ceroni and Archbishop Luigi Frezza , Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. On July 27, 1832 Giovanni Benedetto Folicaldi became papal assistant to the throne . On September 21, 1833, he was appointed consultor of the Congregation on the Index, and on May 19, 1835, he was appointed consultor of the Congregation of Rites.

After almost 35 years in the episcopate, Giovanni Benedetto Folicaldi died on May 28, 1867 in Faenza.
