Željko Reiner

Željko Reiner (born May 28, 1953 in Zagreb , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian doctor and politician . He belongs to the Hrvatska demokratska zajednica (HDZ) and is President of the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia .

Training and professional development

Reiner studied medicine at the University of Zagreb from 1971 to 1976 . From 1976 to 1978 he continued his education in molecular biology. In 1983 he completed specialist training in internal medicine and endocrinology and metabolism. 1980 to 1981 he was a visiting doctor and scientist at the University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, 1984 to 1985 participant in a research program of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for lipoproteins and atherosclerosis. Since 1977 he has been teaching various subjects at the University of Zagreb, since 1983 as a professor. From 2004 to 2012 he was director of the University Clinic in Zagreb. He is a member of many national and international scientific societies.

From 1993 to 1997 he was State Secretary in the Croatian Ministry of Health, and from 1998 to 2000 Minister of Health. In 2012 he became Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament.

On December 28, 2015 he was elected President of the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia .

Private life

Reiner is married. He has a son and a daughter.

In 2017 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien and on May 13, 2017 in Zagreb by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien and Josip Cardinal Bozanić , Grand Prior of the Order in Croatia , invested in the Papal Lay Order.
