Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve
The Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve is a biosphere reserve around the Žuvintas and Amalva lakes and their wetlands in southern Lithuania , in the municipality of Marijampolė , Alytus district and Lazdijai district . The Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve is the first in Lithuania in the list of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. The reserve is located on the middle course of the Nemunas (Memel) and the upper course of the Neris . More than 220 different bird species, of which around 150 breed here, have been observed in the reserve.
