ʿAin Jālūt
ʿAin Jalut or Ain Jalut , also Ain Djalut, Ain Jalut, Ayn Jalut and Ayn Jalut ( Arabic عين جالوت Ain Jalut , DMG ʿAin Ǧālūt 'Goliathsquelle'), is a place in Israel near Nazareth , where Baibars , the Mamluk commander of Egypt,defeated a Mongol army of Hülegüs under the command of the Nestorian Naiman Kitbukha in a battle in 1260. This victory led to the reconquest of Syria and stopped the flow of the Mongol advance into the Middle East . According to legend, it is the place where David killed Goliath.
