The α-lytic protease is an enzyme from the bacterium Lysobacter enzymogenes .

The α-lytic protease is a serine protease . It hydrolyzes proteins preferentially according to the amino acid alanine or valine . It is secreted by Lysobacter enzymogenes , presumably to act as a digestive enzyme to break down proteins in the environment.
