1-27 Hamilton Terrace

There are 27 residential buildings at 1–27 Hamilton Terrace in the Scottish town of Lamlash on the Isle of Arran . In 1992, the buildings were included as an ensemble in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The row of buildings runs parallel to the Uferstraße ( A841 ) in the center of Lamlash. It was built in the late 19th century to a design by the architect John James Burnet . The 27 single-storey buildings are arranged as semi-detached houses in a closed construction. The entrance doors are installed in pairs on the west side in the middle of the building. A lattice window is installed next to it and above it a dormer window with twin windows and a pent roof . The buildings end with steep, slate-covered gable roofs . The facades are plastered with Harl . The penultimate building at each end of the row has a wide gable front facing west. While the remaining houses serve as residential buildings, a post office is housed in No. 27. Some of the windows no longer correspond to their original state.
