description

The three-story building is located at the beginning of New Bridge Street in the city center on the south bank of the River Ayr next to the Ayr New Bridge . As an architect, Alexander Stevens designed the building and lived in it himself. Stevens also planned the first Ayr New Bridge (replaced by a new one in 1879) and received approval from the city council to build a residential building that would underline the architecture of the bridge. Only a doorway was required to provide access to a hotel behind it.

The entrance area of the structure, completed in 1787, is on the northwest side directly on New Bridge Street ( A719 ), one of the main thoroughfares of the city. There are two small shops on the ground floor. The two wooden entrance doors are decorated with decorative combat windows. Blinding pillars separate the doors and shop windows from one another. They have a simple architrave . On the right there is a doorway that leads to the inner courtyard. The upper floors are three axes wide and equipped with lattice windows. On the first floor these are crowned by corbels and cornices . A dormer window with a triple window emerges on the right.

On the façade on the river side, there are two arched segments with three lattice windows per storey. Arched windows are installed at ground level . On the bulges there are balconies decorated with a balustrade with quatrefoils . In the covered with gray slate roofs are skylights installed. A striking chimney rises at the ridge.
