The RC Linz (Rugby Club Linz) is a rugby union club from the Upper Austrian capital Linz . The club, founded in 2000 under the name 1. ORSC Linz, takes part in the Austrian National League (2nd league) and the Austrian 7-a-side championship and plays its home games on the ASKÖ ESV Westbahn sports field.

history

The club was founded in early 2000 by Jaromir Jungmann, who played in the rugby section of Sparta Prague in his youth . The club's men's team played its first friendly match on June 17, 2000 in Vienna , and in autumn of the same year it took part in the 2nd Austrian rugby league for the first time. As of the 2002/03 season, the 2nd Bundesliga was stopped and the team moved to the newly founded Austrian Challenge Cup. In addition, the club played the 1st Austrian rugby league from the 2003/04 season - first in a syndicate with RFC Salzburg , from the 2004/05 season in a syndicate with RC Krems . In the 2006/07 season, the club decided not to take part in the Bundesliga and limited itself to the Challenge Cup. In 2007/08 he returned to the 2nd Bundesliga, and he was immediately promoted to the 1st division. After three years in the top division, he was relegated to the newly founded National League and renamed Rugby Club Linz in 2011/12. The club's greatest success was the overall victory of the Challenge Cup in 2003/04.

Since the summer of 2004 there has also been a U16 team that took part in the Austrian youth championship for the first time in 2005/06. In the summer of 2006, a U18 team was also founded. Since the 2007/08 season there has also been an U12, an U14 and a women team. In the 2009/10 season the junior team "Linz Éspoir" also played in the 2nd Austrian Bundesliga and in the 2012/13 season in the Lower Austrian regional league. The club's goals for the 2014/15 season are a place in the top three of the ARC 2nd league and a further expansion of the youth teams.
