The Otto Hahn Gymnasium is a grammar school in Göttingen . It is named after the German chemist and Nobel Prize winner Otto Hahn (1879–1968). The high school has around 1,230 students and offers all-day care . The branch of music forms a focus of educational activity .

Courses offered

Due to the abolition of the orientation level in Lower Saxony , 5th and 6th grade students have also been taught at the school since the 2004/2005 school year.

English is continued as the first foreign language in grade 5, and French, Spanish, Russian or Latin must be chosen as the second foreign language from the 6th grade onwards. In the 7th grade there is the so-called compulsory elective area , in which an offer from a list has to be selected in each double period. From the 8th / 9th In the 2nd class, 2 WPU courses in 7 profiles, each with 2 different subjects or a third foreign language, must be chosen (languages offered in the 6th grade; both 2 double hours each). From the 11th grade onwards, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian or Latin can be selected as additional languages.

The grammar school has been a member of the MINT-EC since 2001 . The MINT initiative should lead to some particularly suitable high schools establishing themselves as centers of excellence in the subjects of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.

Branch of music

In 1993 a branch of music was introduced at the school . The music branch offers musically gifted and interested students in grades 5 to 6 four hours of music lessons per week, in grades 8 to 9 the lessons are six hours. Two hours of this are devoted to music practice. There is also the so-called "wind class". In this class there are children (offer of the OHG for the 5th, 6th and 7th grade) who would like to play an instrument. You can choose between saxophone , clarinet , euphonium , flute , trombone and tuba . After the 7th grade, the class dissolves and the child, with the consent of the parents, can choose whether to continue playing the instrument.
