1st symphony (Barber)

The Symphony No. 1 op. 9 is a one-movement work that was completed by Samuel Barber in Rome in February 1936 . It contains the following molded parts that merge into one another without pauses:

  • First movement (Allegro)
  • Scherzo (Allegro molto)
  • Slow movement (Andante tranquillo)
  • Passacaglia (Con moto)

The premiere took place on December 13, 1936 in Rome. The following year Artur Rodziński put it on the program at the Salzburg Festival.
