LED bicycle headlights

The 10 lux regulation describes a German regulation on the minimum light intensity distribution of bicycle headlights . It applies to all bicycles. The regulation was laid down in TA 23 in 2003 as an annex to the StVZO and came into force in November 2006 after a transition period of three years.

Thus, a bicycle headlight is approved to the road traffic licensing regulations in Germany obtained, the illuminance at least 10 in the core must illumination area on a frontally illuminated wall at 10 m  Lux , respectively. (On the road, the illuminance is significantly lower due to the flat angle of incidence of light.) In addition, to avoid glare at 3.4  degrees above the brightest point, an illuminance of 2 lux must not be exceeded.

The first providers of these headlights approved in Germany were Cateye for removable and Busch & Müller for fixed LED headlights.
