110 kV line from Salzgitter to Peine

The 110 kV line Peine Salzgitter was a single-circuit three-phase - power transmission line , which in 1941 by Salzgitter AG to supply was built between the substation Salzgitter and Peine Hallendorf to the local steel plants with electric power. Although the line was decommissioned in 2011, the total of 95 overhead line pylons stand or were unscrewed in the landscape as of 2019, which is unusual in Germany.

Design and course

The masts have an asymmetrical design in a rope ladder arrangement, with the lowest cross member being relatively expansive. The broad top traverse carried two earth ropes, which is unusual for a single-circuit line.

The line ran from the Hallendorf substation very precisely in a northerly direction and past Vechelde to the west . The Hanover - Braunschweig railway line crosses north of Sierße and the Mittelland Canal to the west of Woltorf . To the north-east of Peine, a branch was made on two-circle masts to a substation in the Peine industrial area.

Originally, the line was run along with another 110 kV line north around Peine. The masts with three systems along Autobahn 2 still bear witness to this today . There it was connected to the Peine-West substation and continued south to Ilsede . This western arm of the line was dismantled in the 1990s.

Dismantling

Since the electricity required for the operation of the steel works is guaranteed by the public network, the line became obsolete. As the city and Salzgitter AG could not agree on the financing for the dismantling of the masts, the masts remained unused. This caused some resentment among local farmers, on whose fields the masts are standing, a farmer described this to the Peiner Nachrichten as "absurd" and "cheek" on the part of Salzgitter AG.

Since 2018, the masts have been gradually removed and recycled. The last masts should have been dismantled by 2020.
