There is a mansion at 11 Whittinghame Drive in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1979 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The villa was built in 1908 based on a design by the architect John Ednie . Since it was built, it has been the subject of two specialist publications. Architecturally, there are borrowings from the designs by John Kinross , Ednie's mentor, and Robert Lorimer's .

The two-story villa is on Whittinghame Drive not far from the Great Western Road ( A82 ). It has an asymmetrical structure and is designed in the style of the Arts and Crafts movement , but also takes up motifs from the Scottish Baronial style . The masonry consists of irregularly hewn natural stone with offset edging and corner stones made of polished cuboids. Various components protrude from the facades. Some of them are stored on consoles . Small-scale lead glass windows are installed, some with stained glass. The windows are sometimes coupled . The building sections close with steep, slate-covered gable roofs . Their gables are designed as massive staggered gables . A flat economic wing goes off at the rear.

In the interior, large parts of the original wood and plaster work have been preserved. The open fireplace on the ground floor is made with a pressed, profiled arch. Excellent lead glass work by Oscar Paterson can also be found in the interior ; so in the salon and in the vestibule . The wooden cladding of the staircase shows parallels to the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh .
