World Online was a European Internet service provider that offered Internet access , free e-mail and free text messaging.

One of the greatest strengths of World Online was the cooperation between the subsidiary 12Move and the mineral oil company Shell , which enabled the Internet service provider to gain a foothold in Europe and keep the costs of customer acquisition low. World Online was taken over in April 2001 by the Italian Internet service provider Tiscali . With this transaction , Tiscali rose to become the third largest Internet provider in the German market with over 1.8 million active customers (as of March 31, 2001).
