14K (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

14K was a Switzerland he hip-hop magazine. From May 1988, it reported at more or less regular intervals on the culture of rap , breakdance and, increasingly, spraycan art and graffiti . It was published in Zurich . The last edition appeared in 1997.

The magazine, the first issue of which consisted of over 50 copies and consisted of just four copied pages and was created using an Amiga 500 on a dot matrix printer , was founded by Ducal Daddy Fresh, Sharee The Wizard (bourgeois Ivo Pescia), Dee Chill and Razzo Raz. Under the motto “Get Active Project”, the four wanted to take on a more active role and motivate people to shape the Swiss hip-hop scene. Over the years the editorial team changed again and again and was often composed of people who still play an important role in hip-hop today; for example EKR (Zurich rapper), MARC (producer, manager and co-founder of Dialog Records and Nation Records) or Rolf Imhof (today House -DJ). German personalities also worked actively at 14K in the early years. B. Markus Wiese (author of various graffiti books) or Akim Walta (Zeb.Roc.Ski aka Zebster), who plays an important role in the German / European hip-hop scene today.

A total of 63 issues of 14K appeared. The last nine issues in particular were very well received by the readers thanks to their unusual format: in A3 format (when opened, A2), the printed images had more space than in any other magazine that was on the market until then. The final edition was approx. 7000 pieces and was available throughout Europe, in the USA , Australia and Japan .

The magazine was published by Ducal Daddy Fresh, real name Alex Pistoja, for the entire ten years. Today there is still a website from www.14k.ch.
