from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EKR , actually Thomas Bollinger (* 1970 in Baden , Canton Aargau ) is a Swiss rapper . In 1988 the three letters EKR received the meaning as an abbreviation for "A king rules". However, other meanings such as “Federal Cultural Revolution” are also possible.

EKR is one of the first Swiss rappers, producers and hip-hop artists. In 1995 he released his first Swiss rap album, EKR, which was mostly produced in London in 1993, at Soundservice , Bern .

Life

Thomas Bollinger grew up in Wettingen and came into contact with hip-hop for the first time when he was twelve . He was initially interested in graffiti and breakdancing . In 1984 he went to a special school in Zurich after exiting various schools . Through breakdance performances he earned money for two years in order to be able to buy two turntables and made his first steps as a DJ in small discos. He played the first regular hip-hop radio program on Radio Lora in Zurich for various special programs for "Radio DRS-3". In 1988 he produced the first tracks for Basel's “Luana” and Zurich's “Aera E” for the fresh-stuff compilation, thus making his first experiences with music production.

Thereupon EKR received an invitation from New York from the producer Team Disco Twins, who had produced pieces like Chocolate City for Big Daddy Kane . They offered him to live and work with DJ Clash in their studio on Farmers Boulevard in Jamaica Queens. Working with producer Larry Smith , EKR was able to contribute a track for Ultramagnetic Mc's for their 4 Horsemen album. At the same time he produced three pieces for Kool Keith for his solo album. The title Mami was released in 1994 by DJ Bobitto's label "Fondle them records". Further productions for "Black Butta-fly", "Flip", "Two Kings inna Cypha" or "Big Money Gripp" were never published.

After his residence permit had expired, EKR found his new home in London in 1993. In the “3D Studios” he worked as a producer with various artists such as “Form One”, “Yankee”, “Kashmere” or “Juggler Don”.

After the birth of his two children in London, EKR returned to Zurich with his family in 2000. In 2001 he released his album Grigor Fakalaja on Nocode Music and began to deal more intensively with “Swiss” hip-hop. After founding his own label “Familiebetrieb Musig”, EKR managed to have his music licensed by Capitol Music / EMI .

In 2006, EKR became the first dialect rapper to air on MTV . In addition, he was featured on Olli Banjos Sparring 2 as the first Swiss rapper on a German album release. His guest appearance on the album "Round The World" by the two Finns Yor123 & Skandaali was distributed throughout Europe in 2005.

He was a co-founder of the first German-language and second European hip-hop magazine 14K and a long-time graphic editor.
