Sparring 2 is the second mixtape by German rapper Olli Banjo . It was released on June 9, 2006 on the independent label Headrush Records . The mixtape was produced almost exclusively by Roe Beardie. Sparring 2 is the second record with which Banjo was able to enter the top 50 of the German album hit list.

Meaning of the title

Sparring describes a form of training in martial arts. This can be seen as a warm-up for the main fight. Olli Banjo uses this image by releasing the sound carriers of the Sparring series, conceived as mix tapes, before the actual solo album is released. This is how Sparring 2 came about in the transition phase from his album Schizogenie to the sound carrier Lifeshow . The fact that the fighter competes with others in a sparring is carried over to the mixtape by Olli Banjo, as the Aschaffenburger records a guest contribution with a rapper friend on almost every piece of music. As a result, the numerous guests take on the role of a training partner.

Battle rap

The album contains numerous songs that can be assigned to the battle rap. In an interview, Olli Banjo explained that this was due to the high number of guest contributions from befriended rappers: “ You have to find a common denominator. Olli Banjo presents more personal songs in the last third of the sound carrier. For this purpose, the piece of music I won't let it touch me can be called. Banjo recorded this with the German rapper Curse . In terms of content, the two musicians criticize the German media, which present people what they should like. Olli Banjo can only be heard on six songs. Numerous well-known German hip-hop artists can be found among the guests with whom the rapper musically "boxes". Sparring 2 was produced almost exclusively by Roe Beardie. This was already responsible for a large part of the beats on the Olli Banjo albums Schizogenie and Sparring . Roman Perlyowski, the real name of the producer, is also the founder of the Cologne label Headrush Records . Benny Blanco wrote two beats on the mixtape. He is under contract with Azad 's Bozz-Music label . After the recordings, Sparring 2 was mixed by the Noisy Stylus crew .

A video clip was shot for the song Königsklasse . This was produced under the direction of Katja Kuhl. Based on the album title Sparring , Olli Banjo can be seen in the video during boxing training. He does this with the actor Ralf Richter . The rapper's contact with Richter was through his son Max Richter, whom Banjo had met before. Sido, who has a guest post on the song, does not appear in the video about the premier class .

Olli Banjo made the song Impossible available to hip-hop magazine Juice before Sparring 2 was released . The piece of music appeared on the magazine's 64th CD.

Sparring 2 entered the German album charts on June 26, 2006 at number 42. In the 27th calendar week of 2006, the mixtape dropped to number 90 in the list of the 100 best-selling albums of the week.

• The German hip-hop magazine Backspin awarded Sparring 2 four out of five possible evaluation points. The reasoning states, among other things, that banjo fulfills the "hopes" of consumers.
