Kool Keith comes from the South Bronx of New York .

The first recordings were made in 1984. His spheres of activity were primarily New York and later Los Angeles , where he always worked with musicians from all over the world and from a wide variety of directions.

He achieved fame as a member of the group Ultramagnetic MCs , best known for their album Critical Beatdown (1988). The album is one of the most influential hip-hop albums of the late 1980s; alongside albums like It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988) by Public Enemy and Criminal Minded (1987) by KRS-Ones Boogie Down Productions . Not only the production was involved in the success of the album, but also Kool Keith's rhyming style and sometimes absurd choice of topics.

Eight years later he succeeded with Dan “ The Automator ” Nakamura and DJ QBert through the project Dr. Octagon is another stylistically groundbreaking hip-hop album.
