180 Degrees Consulting Vienna (180DC) is part of a globally organized student management consultancy specializing in non-profit and socially oriented organizations. The official name recorded in the Central Register of Associations is 180 Degrees Consulting Vienna - Voluntary Advice by Students and is a registered association with the Central Register of Associations number 993294468. Its aim is to develop innovative, practical and sustainable solutions on a pro bono basis .

Student assistance

180 Degrees Consulting Vienna is a registered association and has 26 employees. Six of them are on the board, four are team leaders and 16 consultants . Since 180DC is a student management consultancy, only students work. As part of 180 Degrees Consulting, students work in a team on a customer problem. The association advises exclusively in English (i.e. the advice and all events also take place in English). On average, 50% of the employees come from non-German-speaking countries (e.g. USA, Italy, Brazil, India).

The semester of 180DC Vienna is built on 3 pillars:

  1. Direct project work with fascinating customers with several coaching sessions (e.g. with AT Kearney )
  2. Accompanying trainings in the workshop format with our various partners (e.g. Teach for Austria , wonderwerk)
  3. Social events (e.g. running cocktail, BBQ, Christmas party)

The end of the semester is the final public presentation to customers and partners.

Benefit for students

180DC helps the students to develop personally through direct and regular feedback, not only internally but also from external partners such as BAT Kearney or BearingPoint. This also promotes soft skills (presentation, giving feedback, pitching ). Students also benefit from insights into social entrepreneurship (which companies are sustainable, which difficulties small start-ups have). They also get to know our partner companies in an informal exchange and thus have access to internships and other jobs.

Time spent on employees

You can work either as a consultant (direct project work in a team), as a team leader (leader of a project team and direct collaboration on the project) or as part of the board (organizational and strategic management of the association).

Time required varies depending on the status:

  • Consultant: 5–8 hours per week
  • Team leader: 8-10 hours per week
  • Board member: more than 10 hours per week

Unique selling proposition ( USP )

At the other student management consultancies in Vienna, students first go through a fellowship or entry-level phase in which they have to prove themselves. At 180 Degrees Consulting, on the other hand, the students are immediately part of a team in which they work on an interesting question directly on a customer project.

Furthermore, 180DC is the only student management consultancy that works pro bono for companies that otherwise cannot afford advice. Since these companies all come from a social area, the advice thus contributes to a more sustainable and fair society.

In addition, 180DC is the world's largest student management consultancy: Founded around 10 years ago in Australia, 180DC is now at over 100 locations in 33 countries. Members can always fall back on this large international network - v. a. Regular meetings take place between branches in the DACH region.

canditature

Every semester, students have the opportunity to become part of 180 Degrees Consulting. The application consists of submitting your résumé and filling out a questionnaire. On the basis of the application, applicants are invited to the assessment center, which mainly consists of a group activity and an individual case.

criticism

The biggest criticism of the student management consultancy is the unpaid work for up to 10 hours per week. As a self-registered association, 180DC cannot pay salaries. Students only get experience in management consulting and social business.
