20th Century Steel Band was a nine-member steel band active from 1975 to 1977 . Most of the musicians came from the island of Trinidad . The track Heaven & Hell Is on Earth included on the first album is considered the best known work of the group, samples from it were used by Jennifer Lopez in the song Jenny from the Block , by the Black Eyed Peas and by Doug E. Fresh .
Band history
The nine-member ensemble took part in the British talent show New Faces in the spring of 1975 and was then signed by Island Records . In the same year the first studio album Warm Heart Cold Steel was released and the group recorded a peel session on November 21, 1975 . On January 10, 1976, the group performed at the Star Parade . A little later, the second album, Yellow Bird is Dead, was released by United Artists Records , followed by several singles . In 1977 the band broke up.
