2254

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2254 - Night Talks on the Telephone was a listen-in program that was broadcast on Deutschlandradio Kultur (or its predecessor programs RIAS , Deutschlandradio Berlin ) from autumn 1991 to June 20, 2014 . The name of the program was derived from the free number for the caller that applies to all programs on Deutschlandradio Kultur: 00800 2254 2254.

history

A week produced predecessor of 2254 existed since the fall of 1991. In the night program Nightline of RIAS Berlin there was every Thursday 0:35 to 2:30 the show Talk Radio .

After the merger of RIAS and DS Kultur in 1994, the program was continued in the successor station Deutschlandradio Berlin and has been broadcast under the name 2254 since February 1, 1998 - except on the night from Friday to Saturday - daily between 1.05 am and 2 am. Since September 1, 2011, it has also been available as a podcast and on the station's website.

As part of a program reform, 2254 was discontinued on June 20, 2014. Due to audience protests, the main department head of culture at the station, Hans Dieter Heimendahl , justified the discontinuation of the program with the intention of setting Deutschlandradio Kultur as a national cultural program with a strong music component compared to the word program Deutschlandfunk .

concept

In 2254 there was a call - broadcast in which listeners live with the presenter via could discuss the day each a given topic. The range was wide. The focus was on political and social issues with a current, mostly up-to-date reference. However, cultural and social issues were also taken up.

2254 was designed by the following moderators , who all worked for Deutschlandradio in a different way : Monika van Bebber, Dieter Kassel, Birgit Kolkmann, Kirsten Lemke, Joachim Scholl and Oliver Thoma. Former moderators included Jan-Christoph Kitzler, Leonie March, Evamaria Miner, Christian Rabhansl, Christiane Reymann and Justin Westhoff .

The topic was set at short notice daily by the respective moderator in consultation with the daily editor. As a rule, the listeners found out about the topic of the day in the show local time from 5:07 p.m., and on the weekend even in the lunchtime edition of the show. Monday to Thursday it was announced early in the evening on the station's website in the program preview of Deutschlandradio Kultur; the topics for Sunday and Monday were already fixed on Friday afternoon.

In addition to being able to take part in the discussion live during the broadcast, a statement or comment has been recorded in advance on an answering machine since 2008. A selection of these voices was then recorded in the broadcast. Furthermore, since 2011 it has been possible for most programs to post a comment on the topic on the Deutschlandradio Kultur Facebook page; some of these comments were read out on the broadcast. Due to the nightly airtime, the chances of being connected with the moderator were usually quite good, depending on the attractiveness of the topic. For this reason, in addition to irregular callers, a group of regular callers had formed who spoke more often and were therefore known to the listeners of the program.
