The Meininger 24-hour swim is a major event in latitude and extreme sports and cultural event in the southern Thuringia county town Meiningen . The event takes place every year in June or July in the "Rohrer Stirn" leisure center and, as one of the most important 24-hour swimming in Germany, is part of the "24H ARENA " of the German Swimming Association (DSV). The organizers are the Meiningen swimming club "Wasserfreunde" and Stadtwerke Meiningen .

The Meininger 24-hour swim was launched in 1993 to help maintain and modernize the Meiningen baths. After humble beginnings, it soon developed into a major event with around 600 active swimming participants and 2000 guests for the cultural and sporting supporting programs. There is a 50-meter competition pool outdoors and a 25-meter pool in the indoor swimming pool available for swimmers. The cultural supporting program includes the evening music events, which are carried out by radio stations such as MDR Jump and Antenne Thüringen as well as various organizers. The patronage took over previously known, among other athletes such as Britta Steffen , Marco Koch , André Lange , Dietmar Schauerhammer , Sven Fischer and Mariama Jamanka .
