High South is an American country rock band from Nashville . It was founded in 2010 and is under contract with Universal Music .

Band history

Jamey Garner , who has already worked for the Trans Siberian Orchestra and became known as a finalist for Nashville Star , founded the band "South" in 2010, which alongside him is Marc Copely (songwriter for Willie Nelson and Carole King , among others ), Kevin Campos (musical and background singer for Babyface and Lisa Tucker, among others ) and Dillon Dixon (songwriter for George Jones and Rodney Atkins, among others ). The name was based on the fact that all band members initially came from the southern states until Marc Copely from New York joined the band. In reference to its origins from New York, which is located in the "far north", the band then renamed itself High South. The band plays a style that bands like The Eagles have made popular.

High South was discovered when an Austrian music producer, who also worked as an A&R consultant for Universal Music , was looking for song material for one of his artists, he came across some songs by South that he liked but were not suitable for his artists. The band was eventually signed by Universal Music Europe. The first album Now was recorded in Mark Knopfler's studios in London. It also appeared under the title Our Way Back Home . With the album, the band reached the top 10 of the Austrian album charts.

The second, self-titled album followed in 2014. In the meantime, Marc Copely had left and the band had shrunk to a trio. Christian Knoll from Austria took over the management of the band. After the release, Dillon Dixon was replaced by Phoenix Mendoza. For live concerts, the band also took support from musicians such as Manu Stix and Sebastian Hödl . The album reached number 16 in the Austrian charts.

On March 6, 2020, the album Peace, Love & Harmony was released , the first album that was also released outside of Europe. It reached number 47 in the German charts.
