The 82mm mortar 2B9 Wassiljok ( Russian for cornflower ) is a Russian mortar from the 1970s.

history

The Wassiljok mortar was developed in the 1970s. He was used in all branches of the Red Army . During a battle, the Vasilyok mortar was first used during the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan . Here it was also mounted on vehicles.

After the end of the Afghanistan conflict, the mortar was largely retired from the troops of the Russian Federation. The mortar is only used by the Russian airborne troops and the Ukrainian army .

technology

Loading a four-shot magazine.

The Wassiljok mortar is an automatic mortar. Its most striking feature is the ability to use it both as a mortar in steep fire and as a gun in flat orbit fire. The mortar can be loaded both from the side, with a magazine with four rounds, and conventionally with a single shot from the front.

The disadvantage is that the base plate and the pipe return system had to be built in a very complicated way in order to be able to absorb the recoil from steep fire. The MT-LB tank was partially equipped with this mortar.
