The L70 from Breda is a twin-barreled anti-aircraft gun .

history

In the early 1980s, the Breda company developed a twin anti-aircraft gun for the Navy . However, the potential of the gun was so great that it was decided to construct a land-based version. However, the success was rather modest. So far the system has only been procured from Venezuela . In 1986 36 guns were delivered.

technology

The tower structure, which is identical to the naval gun, sits on a four- wheel mount . The construction allows a side adjustment range of 360 °, the height adjustment range is −13 ° to + 85 °. In the firing position , six supports are extended, which give the gun additional stability. The tower itself is unmanned, the ammunition is automatically fed from a magazine. The L70 has a high reaction speed and a fast rate of fire . The weapon can not only be used against helicopters and airplanes , but, like its counterpart in the navy, also effectively against cruise missiles . The combat range is 3500 to 4000 meters.

The DutchFlycatcher ” radar system is mostly used as search radar . The radar allows the combination of six guns and their control.

Advantages and disadvantages

The L70 is ideal for property protection and stationary defense. The disadvantage is that the gun can hardly be accommodated in the combat zone. Assembly and dismantling in the firing position take too long to be safe from possible artillery strikes. The system cannot be compressed air .
